Stay Fit This Holiday Season

15045579 SWith errands to run, presents to wrap, food to prepare and holiday parties to attend, it is easy to miss a day or two at the gym. According to Consumer Reports, the average American gains 1.7 pounds during the holiday season. While this number may seem low, it makes up 75 percent of people’s yearly weight gain. Instead of swearing off all sweets, stay active and hydrated this season for a happy and healthy 2016.

Power Walk the Mall

Christmas shopping is a great opportunity to get a workout in. Put on a pair of sneakers and head to the mall instead of doing all of your shopping on the couch. Avoid the parking mayhem by parking your car away from the entrance and starting your power walking in the lot. Once you get inside, take a quick lap around, noting all the stores with the best sales along the way. After a lap of the mall, start your shopping, walking briskly from location to location. Once you’ve checked off everyone on your list, take a final lap and head home to wrap your gifts.

Take a Walk Around Your Neighborhood

Enjoy the beautiful winter weather that Texas has to offer with a walk around your neighborhood. Check out everyone’s holiday decorations and enjoy the crisp evening air. Although the holidays are a lot of fun, they can also be stressful, and an evening walk is the perfect opportunity to relax between all the decorating, shopping and cooking that has to get done.

Start a New Holiday Tradition

Get your whole family together for some healthy fun this season by signing up for a local race. Most holiday races are kid friendly and provide options to walk or bring a stroller, making them the perfect chance to get relatives of all ages involved. Looking for a race in your area to join? Running in the USA has a list of every holiday race taking place in Texas this month.
